haastrophyI  never have enough good things to say about Jay Haas. He is a genuinely nice guy. Being that he was one of my first students, I enjoy tracking his career, and am elated when he finds success on the Champions Tour. I was on my way to Spain to play in the Madrid Masters this past weekend when I heard that Jay had won the 2009 Senior Players Championship. It wasn’t until I landed that I found out how truly special his win was. Jay narrowly defeated Tom Watson by one stroke, carding a birdie on the 18th hole Sunday to match the course record with a 6-under 64 in the final Champions Tour major of the season. Jay finished at 13-under 267 for his third senior major title. He has 14 career Champions Tour victories, also winning the Greater Hickory Classic two weeks ago for back-to-back wins. And, much to my delight, Haas ranked 1st in “putts per round” with a four-round average of 28.3.

Way to go, Jay! Keep piling on the victories, and keep scoring low!
