There’s a lot to be said about what it’s like to play out there “with the boys” on the Champions Tour. In case you’ve never been to an event, there’s a real sense of camaraderie out there and it’s a lot of fun to watch. Now, don’t get me wrong, that’s not say the players aren’t competitive. They certainly are. But players on the Champions Tour seem to share some really good times with one another. They help each other play better, and some, seem to really be enjoying not only the competition, but also the chance to be out on the course with friends.
Okay, so what am I getting at? Well, I hope you never lose sense of what golf is all about. It’s about enjoying the game and the company you keep. As a player and a teacher, every time I tee it up I see it as an opportunity to grow as a teacher and hopefully, create some lasting memories (whether in or out of competition). Even players who make their living on the course, many of them have a down-to-earth perspective (especially the oder guys) and know how blessed they are to play this great game for a living.
So take a tip from my friends on the Champions Tour. If things aren’t always going your way on the course, don’t forget you’re out with friends enjoying a game that you can play for a lifetime. And if you happen to be playing well, hey, that’s a great bonus.
